Don’t Discount December! There’s Still Plenty To Do!

Many people are looking past December ahead of January and the New Year. This is a bad mistake because there is still so much that you can do right now. Personally, I have received my second training request approved this week. I also receive my application/suitability letter from the training facility because I am going through a third-party vendor. Now if I were complacent packing it in and pressing the reset button in a few weeks, I would have missed this opportunity. Yet, there is still plenty that you can do in December.

Here are ten tips that will guide you through completing your goals, decluttering your environment, increasing productivity and morale plus building future momentum.

  1. Don’t Panic, Get Organized!

This is not the time to freak out! You have a short time period to accomplish something. Besides panicking is a time waster that you can ill-afford with a deadline right around the corner. Getting organized is a much better way towards spending your time. Organize every outstanding task regardless of time period. Right now during this stage, you just want to acknowledge everything around you.

  1. Focus on the now!

Now we are whittling down on what to do in a time crunch. You have only ten days to complete something; therefore, anything over ten days needs to be abandoned immediately. You need short-term wins right now.

  1. Make lists

Take all of the short term tasks and list them. You want to know all of the outstanding tasks that you still have to do during this ten-day time period.

  1. Prioritize

List these tasks in order of importance with the ones that have the biggest consequences (positive or negative) first. This helps you see where you should throw your attention.

  1. Break it down even further

Many people stop at prioritizing because they feel like listing all of the tasks means that they have accomplished something. That’s wrong because even though something will take less than 10 days does not mean that it is a priority. Some tasks can actually harm your progress towards the most important tasks out there. Eliminating the non-essential short-term tasks save time which you have very little of to begin with.

  1. Schedule down time

You are not a machine! You are a human who eat and sleeps. Oftentimes, when creating the schedule, people leave these things out and the results are disastrous! Remember, that on average a person works 6 ½ hours of an 8-hour day incorporating lunch and scheduled breaks. Be realistic when creating your schedule.

  1. Build in a buffer

Just like you have built in breaks for the people, your schedule needs a buffer too. A buffer gives you leeway just in case something takes longer than expected. I recommend having a 1-2 day buffer on a 10-day schedule just in case. If you are under the gun, you don’t want to create a schedule with no wiggle room. One thing is for certain: there are always surprises which is all the more reason why you create a buffer to protect you from uncertainty.

  1. Set up a goal tracker

You do have to measure your progress in real time. A goal tracker keeps everyone honest by tracking how many milestones and tasks are completed within the allotted time.

  1. Reward Yourself for Progress

This is a morale booster. Reward yourself and your team whenever you have completed a milestone. You are celebrating progress; but also it boosts the morale of your team because you are closer towards your goal.

  1. Kill the Inner Critic

Last but not least, kill the inner critic! Negativity has no place here. Regardless of who did or did not do whatever, you have ten days remaining to accomplish something. The last thing you need is negativity and infighting. Killing the negativity and dissension are two ways towards ensuring that you complete your tasks in ten days.

PositivityChange Post : Issue 30 : Organized during Tax Time

Tax time has saved my tail this week. You’ve read this right! Tax time has saved me because it will give me a capital infusion to make my business cash flow positive. I admit that I am amazed that tax time is my saving grace (It always is when you don’t owe either the state or the federal governments). I am buoyed by this newfound good news because this entire second quarter I have been letting you know that I intend on being cash flow positive. Now I am in a position to realize this personally and professionally.

Also this is the first time that I have gone to a tax preparer to have my taxes done. I will start doing this because they’re more knowledgeable than I am about this area. I will use an accountant or tax preparer again next year because it is just more efficient to focus on my area of expertise.

Now I do wish to impart a nugget of wisdom to you: save your tax documents to the cloud. I have made it a practice to save my documents to Google Drive. Having them stored on the cloud, has saved me time. I would have been sent back home to retrieve these documents if I don’t have them available to me. Therefore, I recommend that you scan and save this year’s tax documents to the cloud for easy retrieval. Don’t take my word for it. PC Magazine has rated Google Drive as one of the best cloud storage products. Read the article for more options!

In the vein of time management, I have found another resource giving you 66 time management tips. These are great for you to use during tax season and beyond it!

Positive Change with Home Organizing

Since we are organizing your taxes, we can also organize your home. From Good Housekeeping, here are 100 of its best organizing tips

The First 60 Days of the Year

Hey everyone! Can you believe that today is March 1st. It is the 60th day of the year and a great benchmark to look at your progress. I have experienced a lot of positive and negative growth these first two months. PositivityChange has grown too. We have incorporated Facebook Live, created more freebies and have crossed the 25th issue threshold. I have some more freebies and articles that will help you make the next 60 days even better!

I am focusing on time management because time is the one commodity that once it is spent, it is gone forever. 60 days are already gone. It is essential that you manage your time during the next 10 months to experience more positive change in your life. Moreover, this PositivityChange email list’s goal is to provide its readership with the best resources to have it experience more positive change!

Last year I wrote about assessing your 60-day progress. This article gave the reader guidance on how to see what is and is not working. http://positivitychange.com/2016/02/60-day-check-up/

Moreover, I am offering you my FREE time management replay that I did this past December detailing 10 ways to get more time back in your day. http://positivitychange.com/timemanagement

Finally, if you dislike where you are right now on March 1st, here is another article to help you regain focus. http://positivitychange.com/2016/09/week-pcm-retraining-algorithm/

Let March 1st be the beginning of the new 60-day period. Hopefully, these resources will help you become better.

It’s March 1st! There’s Still Time Left to Do Something Great

This Week in PCM : Removing Mental Clutter

Mental clutter happens to everyone regarding of profession or level of experience. This clutter hinders your productivity. And it strikes at the worst possible time, when there is a deadline something else important to do. I have three steps that will help you remove mental clutter and resume your productivity.

  1. Admit that you’re overwhelmed

Lying is the worst thing ever! Your mental clutter problem does not go away just because you ignore it! It only gets bigger.

  1. Pick one thing to focus on

Yesterday I was hit with a bout of mental clutter. I had all of these floating around in my head. There were:

  • the mastermind homework,
  • deciding whether to go to Fiverr to edit my book pdf down to a sample chapter to increase my email list
  • writing copy for my email marketing campaign
  • business development and,
  • taking recruiter phone calls.

All of these swirling around had me frozen by indecision for hours. Then I decided to do one thing: decide that I would edit my book into a sample chapter myself instead of Fiverr. Picking that first had freed from my mental prison. I took one simple action; and, it was liberating! Immediately after editing the ebook, everything else fell into place. I wrote the email marketing copy and created the URL shortener. I also decided to drop the mastermind homework because it was due Friday.

Shameless plug: You can read my FREE Expand Your Personal Brand sample chapter here:

http://expandyourpersonalbrand.com/freechapter

You can also buy the Expand Your Personal Brand book here:

http://expandyourpersonalbrand.com/book

  1. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Keep doing #1 and #2 until you eradicate all of your mental clutter. Do not stop after removing one thing. The goal is to remove mental clutter completely.

Using these three steps will help you remove mental clutter, stop paralysis of analysis and create awesome results!
