PositivityChange Post : Issue 31: Creating More Positive Change

Hey everyone! Welcome to an all-new issue of the PositivityChange Post. In this issue I am highlighting all of the positive changes that are happening in the community around us. Amidst the news reports you wouldn’t think much good is happening; but, it is. People are coming together and implementing positive change in their neighborhoods. This issue provides you with more ways to experience positive change in both your personal and professional lives.

Youngstown (from my home state Ohio) is one of them. They are coming together teaching positive change in their schools which is commendable. http://wkbn.com/2017/04/22/citywide-youngstown-schools-event-promotes-making-positive-change/

This Week in PCM: Someone Is Always Watching

Someone is always watching. Always. Regardless of what you do. Today I watch my book marketing agent LaTanyha Boyd do a Facebook Live where she complements me on my branding. This takes me by surprise because 1) I have very bad tunnel vision and 2) I have never seen her on any of my Earned Value Management Explained broadcasts. Her compliments get me thinking that people are always watching you no matter how much you think they aren’t. They also reinforce HOW I show up. I show up with a coherent message, signature look and a standard setting. These are three things that will set you a part from everyone else in the video marketing and livestreaming realm.

Have a coherent message

Don’t get on camera and start ramblingly incoherently. I know that sounds simple but you would be amazed at how many people are out there doing just that on video. Although livestream is still in its infancy, you can still present a coherent message by writing down an outline or some talking points. Remember, livestream be it Twitter Live, Periscope, Instagram Live, Facebook Live or YouTube Live, are video branding channels. If you show up rambling, speaking incoherently that’s how others will view your brand.

Have a signature look

This is a must for these reasons: 1) it makes you memorable and 2) dressing is nonverbal communication. Most people don’t  see dressing as nonverbal communication but how you dress communicates to people a whole lot of things. That’s why I wear a black top to all of my livestream videos. Black is a professional color and it is easy to repurpose. Many people on Periscope and Facebook Live repurpose their broadcasts onto YouTube. It is easier to repurpose a black top onto YouTube than numerous broadcasts with you wearing many different colors.

Black is my brand color. Color is very important for personal branding (yes, you ARE a personal brand!). Having a signature look with a specific brand color convey organization. The viewer knows that he or she is watching someone who is pulled together. Remember, as I have stated before: your dress is a form of nonverbal communication. Having a signature look communicates to the audience that you are a real professional.

Have a standard background

I have one place where I do all of my broadcasts. It is comfortable, well-lit and creates a positive customer experience. What goes on in the background is just as important as what goes on in the foreground. Shooting from one place gives the audience a specific kind of experience. Whether it’s your bedroom, home office, corporate office, cubicle or park bench, having a standard background projects stability and consistency with the viewer. If you or the people in your background are all over the place, then your audience will think the same.

Here are my three tips to make sure that you present a positive video image and message. Remember, whether you know or not, someone is always watching. To work with Phenomena Corporation, visit us at www.carlarjenkins.com/work and info@carlarjenkins.com

PositivityChange Post : Issue 30 : Organized during Tax Time

Tax time has saved my tail this week. You’ve read this right! Tax time has saved me because it will give me a capital infusion to make my business cash flow positive. I admit that I am amazed that tax time is my saving grace (It always is when you don’t owe either the state or the federal governments). I am buoyed by this newfound good news because this entire second quarter I have been letting you know that I intend on being cash flow positive. Now I am in a position to realize this personally and professionally.

Also this is the first time that I have gone to a tax preparer to have my taxes done. I will start doing this because they’re more knowledgeable than I am about this area. I will use an accountant or tax preparer again next year because it is just more efficient to focus on my area of expertise.

Now I do wish to impart a nugget of wisdom to you: save your tax documents to the cloud. I have made it a practice to save my documents to Google Drive. Having them stored on the cloud, has saved me time. I would have been sent back home to retrieve these documents if I don’t have them available to me. Therefore, I recommend that you scan and save this year’s tax documents to the cloud for easy retrieval. Don’t take my word for it. PC Magazine has rated Google Drive as one of the best cloud storage products. Read the article for more options!

In the vein of time management, I have found another resource giving you 66 time management tips. These are great for you to use during tax season and beyond it!

Positive Change with Home Organizing

Since we are organizing your taxes, we can also organize your home. From Good Housekeeping, here are 100 of its best organizing tips

Here is another article from Women’s Day magazine giving you 30 more home organizational tips.

Harvard Business Review tackled what happened when the novelty wore. In its article, the Hard Side of Change Management, the publication discussed four ways to measure change. For more information, read here:

Now that things are settling into routine and the mundane, you need to break through this by determining what’s urgent versus what’s important. Urgency demands immediate reaction. Importance can be prioritized. For more information about to how to know the difference:

One more article from the archives: Keeping the Momentum Until You Win. We are in week two of the second quarter and all of the people who were so gung ho about posting their second quarter goals on Facebook and LinkedIn had returned back to the same routines. Here’s how to break out of the mundane. Yes, positive change is hard but you have to still keep the momentum until you win!

This Week in PCM : The Importance of Saying Thank You

I have done this video in response to an Instagram post. Someone asked when was the last time that you mailed a handwritten thank you card. I replied today because my banker scheduled a meeting with me and answered all of my questions. Moreover, I mailed thank you cards for all of my eBay purchases. Whenever someone took time out to meet you in person or patronized your store it was important to acknowledge that with a thank you. In this increasingly Internet of Things world, we cannot lost touch of face-to-face interaction and a handwritten thank you card. These cards went a long way.

Spring Clean Your Digital Devices

Happy April everyone! Welcome to the second quarter. We here at PositivityChange hope that you are experiencing more positive change in both your personal and professional lives. We are still focused on spring cleaning. Most people think spring cleaning is confined to your house or your car; but, we live in a digital world and need to spring clean our devices too. This morning, I have migrated all of my project management videos from my phone to Google Drive. I have already posted them on Instagram and YouTube plus they are taking up data. I have them stored on the cloud plus I can start off my second quarter right with a clean slate! So here’s my reminder to you to start April and the second quarter by spring cleaning your digital devices. A clean slate = a clean break!
