This Week in PCM : Removing Mental Clutter

Mental clutter happens to everyone regarding of profession or level of experience. This clutter hinders your productivity. And it strikes at the worst possible time, when there is a deadline something else important to do. I have three steps that will help you remove mental clutter and resume your productivity.

  1. Admit that you’re overwhelmed

Lying is the worst thing ever! Your mental clutter problem does not go away just because you ignore it! It only gets bigger.

  1. Pick one thing to focus on

Yesterday I was hit with a bout of mental clutter. I had all of these floating around in my head. There were:

  • the mastermind homework,
  • deciding whether to go to Fiverr to edit my book pdf down to a sample chapter to increase my email list
  • writing copy for my email marketing campaign
  • business development and,
  • taking recruiter phone calls.

All of these swirling around had me frozen by indecision for hours. Then I decided to do one thing: decide that I would edit my book into a sample chapter myself instead of Fiverr. Picking that first had freed from my mental prison. I took one simple action; and, it was liberating! Immediately after editing the ebook, everything else fell into place. I wrote the email marketing copy and created the URL shortener. I also decided to drop the mastermind homework because it was due Friday.

  1. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Keep doing #1 and #2 until you eradicate all of your mental clutter. Do not stop after removing one thing. The goal is to remove mental clutter completely.

Using these three steps will help you remove mental clutter, stop paralysis of analysis and create awesome results!
